Kimberly A. Workowski, MD

Thursday, July 16, 2026 (09:00 AM) – Sexually Transmitted Infections: Management and Prevention Challenges

Kimberly Workowski is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Emory University and has served as a medical consultant to CDC coordinating the development of the CDC Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines for the past 30 years.

Dr Workowski serves on several national guideline committees including the HIV Prevention and Opportunistic Infection Guidelines, the IDSA/AASLD Hepatitis C guidelines panel, the ACIP Mpox vaccine working group, and CDC Doxycycline Post –exposure prophylaxis guidelines. Dr. Workowski provides technical guidance on the scientific advisory council for the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium providing technical assistance on sexually transmitted infection clinical trial design, and translational and behavioral research. She has an active translational research program investigating novel therapeutics for sexually transmitted infections and HIV, syphilis pathogenesis, HIV cure research, and STI prevention interventional trials.

Friday, July 17, 2026 (08:30 AM) – Controversies Surrounding the Hepatitis B Vaccine for Newborns

Paul A. Offit, MD is the Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well as the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology and a Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Offit is currently a voting member on the FDA’s Vaccine Advisory Committee and has previously served on the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices to the CDC. He is also the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, recommended for universal use in infants by the CDC in 2006 and by the WHO in 2013. This vaccine was estimated recently to save about 165,000 lives a year. He is also the author of eleven books written for the public about science, medicine, and vaccines.

Catherine Chappell, MD, MSc

Saturday, July 18, 2026 (08:30 AM) – Test and Treat Hepatitis C Virus in Pregnancy: Are We There Yet?

Catherine Chappell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.  She completed two fellowships in Reproductive Infectious Diseases and Complex Family Planning and is board certified in Addiction Medicine.  Her recent work has focused evaluating the safety and efficacy of direct acting antivirals for hepatitis C treatment in pregnancy as well as improving  treatment uptake among postpartum individuals.
