The Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (IDSOG) was
created in 1973 to bring together professionals in the field of obstetrics and
gynecology who are interested in the scientific study of infectious diseases.
Activities of the Society are conducted for scientific purposes, for the
advancement and promulgation of knowledge regarding the area of infectious
diseases, and for the facilitation of personal relationships among investigators
in the subject of infectious diseases related to obstetrics and gynecology.
Any qualified physician or biologist who is associated with an organization involved in women's health or infectious diseases in women may be considered for membership. Prospective members must have demonstrated continuing individual interest and scientific productivity in the filed of infectious diseases in women through such vehicles as publication, teaching, focused practice or research, and/or service. Personal original presentation of research to the society at its annual meeting is also a requirement for membership. Prospective members must be sponsored and seconded by members in good standing of the Society. There are currently 114 members.
The Society is an affiliate organization of the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). This relationship, is identified as part
of ACOG's goals to: 1) Interrelate with other organizations and special
interests within obstetrics and gynecology; 2) Improve communication among these
organizations and ACOG in order to establish more collaborative relationships
and create a more unified voice within the specialty of ob/gyn; and 3) Provide
cost-effective services to organizations so that they might further the overall
mission of fulfilling the educational needs of the specialty.
IDSOG conducts an annual meeting during August each year holding abstract
presentations and poster sessions. A half-day pre-symposium is also presented.
